Het bevat\u00a0<strong>code\u00efnefosfaat<\/strong>\u00a0(doorgaans 10 mg\/5 ml) als actief bestanddeel, dat werkt als een opio\u00efde antitussivum (hoestonderdrukker). Het wordt vaak gecombineerd met andere ingredi\u00ebnten zoals fenylefrine (een decongestivum) of guaifenesine (een expectorans), afhankelijk van de formulering en de regio. Hoog risico op misbruik \u2013 wordt vaak recreatief gebruikt (bijvoorbeeld in de vorm van \"lean\" of purple drank gemengd met frisdrank).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Contra-indicaties<\/strong>Niet geschikt voor mensen met ademhalingsproblemen, hoofdletsel, glaucoom of die MAO-remmers\/antidepressiva gebruiken. Vermijd alcohol, kalmeringsmiddelen en autorijden.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Zwangerschap\/Borstvoeding<\/strong>Categorie C: alleen gebruiken als de voordelen opwegen tegen de risico's; komt in de moedermelk terecht.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overdosis<\/strong>Kan fataal zijn. Symptomen zijn onder andere vernauwde pupillen en coma. Naloxon kan het effect omkeren.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Opslag<\/strong>Bewaren op kamertemperatuur, buiten het bereik van kinderen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mb-2 last:mb-0\"><strong>Beschikbaarheid<\/strong><br \/>\nIn de meeste landen alleen op recept verkrijgbaar (bijvoorbeeld onder de opio\u00efdenwetgeving). Niet goedgekeurd door de FDA in de VS (code\u00efnesiroop zoals promethazine\/code\u00efne is daar beperkt verkrijgbaar). Controleer de lokale regelgeving \u2013 misbruik of doorverkoop is illegaal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-2 last:mb-0\"><strong>Bewijs en bronnen<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gebaseerd op productmonografie\u00ebn (bijvoorbeeld van NAFDAC-goedkeuringen in Nigeria, DRAP-lijsten in Pakistan) en farmacologische handboeken zoals\u00a0<em>Martindale: Het complete naslagwerk over geneesmiddelen<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Studies (bijvoorbeeld Cochrane-reviews) tonen aan dat code\u00efne een bescheiden effect heeft op hoest, maar minder effectief is dan honing\/DNS bij kinderen; de WHO merkt op dat de werkzaamheid bij volwassenen beperkt is in vergelijking met een placebo.<\/li>\n<li>Gegevens van het CDC\/WHO wijzen op epidemie\u00ebn van misbruik van opio\u00efdesiroop in regio's zoals West-Afrika.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mb-2 last:mb-0\"><strong>Aanbeveling<\/strong>Raadpleeg voor gebruik een arts of apotheker.
