Het heeft ook een mild pijnstillend en kalmerend effect.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promethazine<\/strong>Een antihistaminicum dat allergische symptomen (loopneus, niezen) helpt verminderen en bovendien een sterk kalmerend effect heeft.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"auto\">De combinatie zorgt voor verlichting van de hoest, samen met slaperigheid en ontspanning.<\/p>\n<h3 dir=\"auto\">Veiligheidsprofiel en risico's<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Bij exact gebruik volgens voorschrift voor kortdurende medische doeleinden kan het medicijn effectief zijn. Het brengt echter wel risico's met zich mee. <strong>ernstige risico's<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\"><strong>Vaak Voorkomende Bijwerkingen<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"auto\">\n<li>Slaperigheid en sedatie<\/li>\n<li>Duizeligheid<\/li>\n<li>Droge mond<\/li>\n<li>Constipatie<\/li>\n<li>Misselijkheid<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"auto\"><strong>Ernstige risico's<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"auto\">\n<li><strong>Ademhalingsdepressie<\/strong> (vertraagde of gevaarlijke ademhaling) \u2014 kan levensbedreigend zijn, vooral bij kinderen, ouderen of in combinatie met andere kalmeringsmiddelen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Verslaving en afhankelijkheid<\/strong> Code\u00efne is een opio\u00efde met een hoog risico op misbruik.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overdosis<\/strong>Symptomen zijn onder andere extreme slaperigheid, verwardheid, trage ademhaling, coma en overlijden.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ultrasnelle metaboliseerders<\/strong> code\u00efne (vanwege genetische factoren die verband houden met CYP2D6) kan te snel worden omgezet in morfine, waardoor het risico op toxiciteit toeneemt.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ernstige sedatie<\/strong> wanneer gemengd met alcohol, benzodiazepinen, andere opio\u00efden of spierverslappers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 dir=\"auto\">Potentieel voor misbruik<\/h3>\n<p dir=\"auto\">Wockhardt hoestsiroop (en soortgelijke producten met promethazine en code\u00efne) kent een goed gedocumenteerde geschiedenis van recreatief misbruik, vaak aangeduid als \"lean\", \"purple drank\" of \"sizzurp\" wanneer het gemengd wordt met frisdrank en snoep.
