Product Description
Norflurazepam Powder
Norflurazepam Powder (also known as N-Desalkylflurazepam) is a long-acting benzodiazepine and an active metabolite of several prescription drugs, including flurazepam, quazepam, and fludiazepam. It has been sold as a designer/research chemical since around 2016 and is not approved for medical use in any major jurisdiction. It is typically encountered as a white or off-white powder.
Pharmacology
Norflurazepam acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor, with unselective binding across receptor subtypes. It produces anxiolytic, sedative, anticonvulsant, and muscle-relaxant effects.
Key Pharmacokinetic Data:
- Half-life: Very long — approximately 47–150 hours (average ~71 hours, up to 200+ hours in some individuals)
- Onset (oral): 30–90 minutes
- Duration: Extremely prolonged due to the long half-life, leading to significant accumulation with repeated dosing
This extended duration makes it prone to buildup in the body, increasing risks over time.
Acute Safety Profile
At common reported doses (typically 1–5mg), users describe strong anxiolytic effects with notable sedation. Because of its potency and long half-life, effects can persist for days.
Common Reported Effects:
- Strong anxiety reduction
- Sedation and drowsiness
- Muscle relaxation
- Mild euphoria (at higher doses)
Potential Adverse Effects & Risks
- Prolonged Sedation & Accumulation: The long half-life can cause next-day (or multi-day) impairment, grogginess, and cognitive deficits.
- Respiratory Depression: Risk increases significantly when combined with other depressants.
- Dependence & Withdrawal: High potential for physical dependence. Withdrawal symptoms can be severe and prolonged due to the extended half-life.
- Cognitive Impairment: Memory issues, confusion, and reduced psychomotor performance.
- Other: Dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and increased fall risk (especially in elderly).
Major Concern: Because of its extremely long duration, repeated dosing can lead to dangerous accumulation, raising the risk of overdose even at moderate amounts.
Drug Interactions & Contraindications
- High Risk: Alcohol, opioids, other benzodiazepines, gabapentinoids, or any CNS depressants (can cause life-threatening respiratory depression).
- Strongly contraindicated for individuals with respiratory disorders, liver impairment, history of substance dependence, or those operating vehicles/machinery.
- Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Legal Status (as of 2026)
Norflurazepam is controlled or banned in many countries:
- UK: Under the Psychoactive Substances Act
- Germany: NpSG (industrial/scientific use only)
- Canada: Schedule IV
- Many other jurisdictions regulate it under analogue or NPS laws.
Important Note: This is a neutral, educational overview based on pharmacological data and available reports. Norflurazepam is an unregulated research chemical with very limited clinical safety data in humans.
